Rhinomanometric Measurements before and after Septoplasty

Abstract

We evaluated the outcome of septoplasty by measuring the nasal airway resistance using anterior rhinomanometry. Nasal airway resistances were measured in 70 normal adults as reference values and preoperative and postoperative nasal resistance
were
measured in 27 patients who underwent septoplasty The total resistance in control group was 0.37 Pa/㎤/sec before decongestion and 0.22 Pa/㎤/sec after decongestion. The decongested total resistance in patient group decreased from 0.39 Pa/㎤/sec
to
0.25
Pa/㎤/sec after septoplasty. The decongested nasal resistance in narrow side decreased from 1.33 Pa/㎤/sec to 0.62 Pa/㎤/sec after septoplasty. The difference between preoperative and postoperative total nasal resistance showed a good correlation
with
obstructive symptom.
